Prom Night

Well last night was 1984's Prom Night at the Cat Club. I haven't been to '84 since I went last Thanksgiving and it's funny to know that no matter how long it's been you still see some of the same people there you saw last time around. Jeremy and I didn't dress up, of course, but a bunch of our friends did. We're talking tuxes, prom dresses, corsages you name it! They all looked fabulous! I at least finally got to wear my cool colorfully striped Miss Sixty halter with my fabulous matching hot pink leather belt and pointy hot pink heels! I also got a nice buzz on and had a pretty darn good time actually. I definitely won't frequent '84 like some of my other friends do but these special occasion outings are always a good time. I'd like to give a shout out to all the bad ass prom peeps aka Shawn, Libby, Mark, Danae, Greg, Raquel, Dave, Ken and the rest of the group that was there.

So as far as the running into of people I knew, last night was a bigger turnout than usual. I of course saw my ex-boyfriend Sam there. I saw him there last time too. We don't talk ever. We had a really bad breakup, mostly due to my really bad behavior at the time. So I take a lot of the blame on that one. Anyways we're at least able to co-exist in the same club and within the fringes of the same circles without awkwardness which is good. And Sam if you ever read this, I'm sorry I was such an ass (understatement of the century) to you when we broke up and I hope one day you can accept my profound apologies on the matter. I can only excuse my bad behavior by saying that I really loved you at the time and didn't want it to end. But so it goes.... I digress.

I ran into Gina, my hairdresser and her fabulous gay boy friends. They were all a total blast! She was drunk off her ass and still drank a ton more. Man can that woman hold her alcohol! I would have been passed out on the floor had I had that much to drink. They were so fun though and they all kept going off about how totally hot I was which was really great for the ego. Thanks! I saw and talked to Akemi a girl I knew from the Rockabilly scene who's still going out with Barry after 5 years! Wow, that's a long time! For me at least.

There were also some sfnetter folks there like Shadow Phredd aka Marissa who I didn't talk to but I saw her there. Rob as in Asia/Rob from back in the day. He was working there. I did manage at one point to talk to him for a bit which was fun. He was surprised to see me since it had been years and years since I'd last seen him. I'm sure he didn't even recognize me. I wouldn't have recognized him if Ben hadn't of pointed him out. Oh yes, I ran into Ben. What a trip that was! If you recall I wrote about Ben in April of last year. He's my old friend who I had fallen out of touch with that I saw on 20/20 being reunited with his birth mom due to some crazy unusual circumstances which you can read all about yourself!

It was so nice to see Ben. I spent most of the evening hanging out with him just talking about whatever and reminiscing a bit. The first time I ever went to the Cat Club Ben took me there. We're talking 1996 here. Ben and Sam are friends and they hang out in the same social circle basically but it was a trip for me to see them both in the same place at the same time since Ben was my closest friend while I was going out with Sam. If I wasn't with Sam I was primarily with Ben. We worked together and hung out together all the time. I miss having friends like that. I have a few, but not at the level of friendship I had with Ben. Anyway, after most likely driving Ben crazy from hanging around him too much I then I took off, went to eat with super drunken funny Ken (no not Ben, KEN) at Sparky's, dropped him off at home then headed home myself. You know, while it was great seeing Ben our lives are so different from each other's now it's not like we could just hang out again. I mean I wish we could but I don't see how it would work like it used to. Back then sfnet was our social circle and now we've evolved into new circles. I'm too much of a drifter I guess. I float through circles a lot.

It's nice to know you can still have fun when you see some people though. I'm sure if I go back to 1984 in five years I'll run into some of the same people all over again. I used to think SF was a big place but really it's not. I always run into people that I used to know. Well that's also probably because tastes my change somewhat but there are only so many clubs you can go to that have the type of music or scene that you want to hang out in. It's still weird though. I went out with Sam from 1995-1996. That's EIGHT years ago! Damn! Ben and I haven't hung out 6 or 7 years probably. That seems like an eternity. It's like when I saw Shannon a couple months ago. I hadn't see her in ten years. The years seem to drop away though like it's only been 6 months or something. It nowhere near feels like that many years have passed already. I'm happy that Shannon is back in my life too and I definitely wouldn't mind running into Ben again. Good times, good memories.

You know I still have my prom dress from my 1988 Junior Prom. It's white and lacey. It's times like this I wish I had a scanner. My prom pics are totally good for a laugh. I had some big hair in those photos too. Dave my old friend was my boyfriend and prom date at the time. What a raucous night that was. I seem to recall getting into some rip roaring fights and ashing in his lap in Lyon's. Back when you could smoke in restaurants. We did have some fun times though, like going to the Hyatt Regency for dinner with our friends in that rotating restaurant. We felt like such adults. And singing along in the car to Fishbone while Chris Stelz chauffeured us because his girlfriend Marisa had already promised to go to the prom with this other guy Chris before they started going out. Wow, what drama that was! I have the crappiest memory though, who was the other couple we were with... Dave? Help me out here! Ah well, crazy prom night, crazy memories. At least it was interesting! I can never complain that I haven't had an interesting life.
