Wreck!

I've barely had my car 6 months and guess what? That's right! It's wrecked! The first and foremost thing I should say here is that NO ONE was hurt. We are so very very lucky. I was very worried about the people in my car and I'm so thankful everyone came out okay. Particularly the person in the front seat since we got hit on that side right in his door. T-boned so to speak. Basically we went through an intersection and a car running a light slammed into us. The door is bent all the way in and can't be moved. The glove compartment won't open because the doors in the way. The engine died and some smoke came out of it. Who knows what that was. The right front quarter panel is dinged too. The back passenger door wouldn't open either. It's blocked by the damage to the front door. The front side passenger window exploded all over us as well. I was picking glass off from last night til today. I kept finding pieces of it everywhere. My fingers got a tiny bit cut but big whoop. That's nothing.

Here's the worst part: The 3 hispanic people in the other car pulled their car over, came up and told us that the accident wasn't their fault and the man who was driving said something about his wife. He kept repeating, "My wife, my wife" and I said "Look, do you have any insurance info?". He kept repeating "My wife", then the next thing I know I look away for a moment and they've all fled the scene on foot. They left their car behind though. It was some sort of suzuki samurai type car or something which means it was higher up off the ground like my car. I'm hoping that means it didn't bend the frame in when it hit us. If my frame is bent they'll probably total the car and while that's probably a good thing it sure is going to suck to have to find a new car again. Arghhhhhhh!

Anyways, the police came, took the report. I talked to my insurance company who took care of everything else. They even waived my deductible since it was a hit and run uninsured motorist accident. We didn't wind up getting home from this whole fiasco until about 5:30am or so. I stayed in SF today until I could get a ride to Avis to pick up my rental car that I'll be driving for a long time. The ONLY thing I am not covered for is the rental. I was stupid enough not to opt for the rental in my policy. I'll be sure to call and change that asap tomorrow. I should know by tomorrow what the verdict on the car is too. I have to go down there and get some stuff out of it as well. Luckily it's in Mountain View.

So once again, everyone's okay. What a relief. I mean sure this is inconvenient and all but who cares its just a car.
