Scientology and Tom Cruise - Be very afraid...

I always find things online that I think are really interesting. I constantly spam my friends with various links telling them that they "have to read this". I see a lot of sites are putting up posts periodically with links that they've found interesting and that's something that I think would be cool to do since I'm constantly surfing the web. This will save me some emailing as well. I'll add some sort of web links/web gems type post later.

For now, my latest fascination has been around the whole Katie Holmes/Tom Cruise/Scientology craze. I've been spending some time reading up on this. This is some scary scary stuff. I'm still in disbelief at how many people really buy into this crap. Wow.

Here is some interesting reading on Scientology:

Here are some articles on Tom Cruise and some infamous clips:

Okay, lots of reading for when you're bored. With all that said, I loved Batman Begins, although Katie Holmes added zero to that movie. In fact she was the worst part of it. Thank god she wasn't in it for very long. Awful. War of the Worlds was a lot of fun as well, except for the last five minutes, total cop out. Otherwise a thrilling summer blockbuster. Tom Cruise was good in it too.

So all those people out there that say all this crap about Tom Cruise is going to influence if they see his movies or not are full of it. It's easy to be indignant about this stuff and make statements about how he's ruining his career etc etc but you know it's not really ruining his career. It's like those times when you go to a store and you happen to get one rude sales girl and you make a HUGE statement about how you'd never shop there again but you know you're going to anyways because where else are you going to buy that particular thing that you like? Not to draw comparisons to the Oprah/Hermes thing and maybe my analogy wasn't great but I'm sure you know where I'm trying to go with that.

Honestly yes I think he's a nut but I'd totally see War of the Worlds again. I saw Batman Begins twice already. Christian Bale is an amazing actor though so who cares about whats-her-name.

Ok, I think I've read enough on Scientology to say that while it's definitely a self-serving religion I don't think it's as diabolical as some have suggested. From what I've read it's an attractive religion for people who have a lot of money and who like to gain metaphysical enlightenment through self exploration. It seems that even among the faithful there's some discussion as to whether the whole Xenu/alien souls story should be taken literally.

Did you read the essay to attaining the OT II level? I don't understand that at all. http://www.xs4all.nl/~kspaink/cos/essays/robinson_summary.html

I just skimmed that doc. Doesn't that strike you as something someone just made up as they went along to sound technical? Isn't that basically what L Ron Hubbard did? Make up a religion?

I think the use of big/made up words and confusing sentences are to intimidate people into thinking this is impressive in some way. Still creeps me out. Although I didn't realize there was some sort of debate about taking the alien soul thing literally. I wonder if that's to make people think they aren't all crazy??

Dave says: Do your research. Scientology is fucked up in a serious way, it's not just some odd, harmless pseudoreligion. http://www.xenu.net/

If you have an interest on what really is going on with Scientology, there is a book for sale at ebay.com called Scientology(tm) vs. Scientology(tm) E-book or softcover.

Scientology is evil, they destroy lives parade as corrupt chiropractors and abuse physically and mentally their detractors.
